GAVS - Senior Victim Support Office
Who We Are
The Association for the Development of Gaia – AMARGAIA has been developing the Saber AMAR+ project since December 2019. Through the Saber AMAR+ project, AMARGAIA created the Senior Victim Support Office. This office provides free and confidential psychological, social, psychosocial, and legal counseling services to the senior population who are victims of domestic violence.
Mission
The Senior Victim Support Office (GAV Sénior) aims to raise awareness about the phenomenon of Domestic Violence among the general population of Vila Nova de Gaia and surrounding areas, with a special focus on the elderly population. This is achieved through a series of actions aimed at prevention, identification, and intervention for this target group.
Available Support
Psychological Support
The GAVS offers specialized psychological support to help senior victims of domestic violence cope with the emotional impact of violence. We provide individualized support for each person, promoting emotional recovery, boosting self-esteem, and offering strategies for managing stress and anxiety.
Social Support
Our team provides social support to ensure that victims have access to essential resources, such as safe housing, social benefits, and healthcare services. We collaborate with partner institutions to ensure that each person receives the necessary support to rebuild their life with dignity and safety.
Psychosocial Support
The GAVS offers integrative psychosocial support, combining emotional and social assistance to address the specific needs of senior victims of domestic violence. Through a personalized intervention plan, we promote the well-being and autonomy of the victims, ensuring appropriate support throughout all stages of the recovery process.
Legal Counseling
The GAVS assists victims in filling out legal requests for judicial assistance through Social Security. Our team provides information on the necessary procedures to access a lawyer and ensure the legal rights of the victims, facilitating the bureaucratic process and ensuring appropriate follow-up.
